    Cardiovascular Prevention

We have several of the few physicians in the state to be recognized in National Heart and stroke treatment.

Jacques Laguerre, MD, Sadhana Char, MD and Roshni Patel, MD, have been awarded recognition by the National Committee for Quality Assurance/American Heart Association and American Stroke Association "Heart/Stroke Provider Recognition Program". This recognition is based upon the provision of comprehensive treatment for cardiovascular and/or stroke patients, meeting the national standards for care. We utilize these standards to provide quality care. Our practice emphasizes the prevention of the development of heart problems as well as the prevention of complications in individuals that already have developed heart disease.

Your initial evaluation includes a careful history and physical examination searching for early warning signs and symptoms of heart disease. We will also obtain an electrocardiogram and blood work. The blood tests will include basic information regarding cholesterol and screening for diabetes. Additional blood tests can be arranged that provide more detailed information regarding your heart disease risk. We send many of these tests to an outside specialty lab.

    High sensitivity C reactive protein

Inflammation within the blood vessel walls indicates an increased risk for heart disease. This test measures the presence of inflammation in your vessels.

    Lipid panel/Liposcience

This highly specialized test provides a further breakdown and analysis of cholesterol and triglyceride in your body. Additional information beyond the standard cholesterol test allows a better estimate of risk for heart disease and need for treatment.

    Homocysteine Level

Homocysteine is an amino acid in the body that when elevated increases the risk for vascular disease. This test is useful to evaluate individuals with early onset heart disease or severe vascular disease in several vessels of the body.

Lpa is another form of cholesterol that increases the risk of heart disease.

    2-hour glucose tolerance test

This test performed in our lab, is used for the early diagnosis of diabetes. If your baseline tests indicate a possibility of diabetes we will order this test to confirm the diagnosis. You will drink a sugar beverage and then we will check your glucose two hours later.

    • If further testing is needed our staff will schedule the necessary tests. We work closely with all of the nearby cardiologists and will arrange any necessary evaluation from stress testing and cardiac echo to heart catheterization.

CT of coronary arteries - This is a new technology that shows if calcium is present in the coronary arteries. The presence of calcium indicates the likelihood of coronary artery disease. Our staff can schedule this test with radiologists in Charlotte and we will review the results with you and provide appropriate recommendations.
